Quintinhas II House

The Quintinhas II House is located in a consolidated area of Almada, characterized by a predominantly single-family occupation and a pronounced morphological heterogeneity. The plot, resulting from the aggregation of two lots, is traversed transversely by underground public sewers, whose protection zone prevents construction in its central area. This constraint is incorporated as the framework of the footprint, determining the fragmentation of the program and the articulation between volumes, pathways, and outdoor spaces.

The composition seeks to establish a clear order within the surrounding environment. A horizontal plane in Corten steel builds the street-facing frontage and constitutes the visual base for two white volumes: the main body of the dwelling and the pool pavilion. The alternation between solid and void allows the absorption of the discontinuity imposed by the infrastructure, organizing a sequence of gardens, terraces, and courtyards with different scales and degrees of privacy.

The program distribution establishes a vertical gradation between collective and private spaces. On the ground floor, the kitchen, dining room, and living room form a continuous space, visually pierced from east to west and extended into the garden through large-scale openings. An en-suite bedroom is integrated into this level as an autonomous unit, allowing for greater flexibility of use. On the upper floor, the two suites, the office, and the laundry room articulate with more contained outdoor areas. These terraces assume the condition of elevated courtyards, bounded by hollow cobogó brick elements that filter visual relationships while simultaneously regulating natural light intake and cross-ventilation.

Next to the pool, the support volume completes the composition and helps define the outdoor space. Its placement, in articulation with the main body, organizes the relationship between the garden, the covered area, and the pool, integrating the program's complementary functions into an autonomous element.
