Studio House

This project involves the renovation of a 70m² apartment in a 1940s building, originally designed as social housing for workers of the "Ar Liquido" factory in an industrial neighborhood. The original layout consisted of small rooms connected by a long, dark corridor, suffering from a severe lack of natural light and storage space.

Today, the rigid corridor has been erased, making way for an open, fluid space that sweeps through the house from the office to the outdoor garden. This new spatial perception maximizes the social areas and natural light, while keeping the bedroom area contained and private.

Within the sleeping area, a bespoke multifunctional module was designed—a "house within a house." This single element organizes a small living room, bedroom, walk-in closet, and a mezzanine office, concealing storage in every corner, including floor trapdoors. Large wooden shutters control the light and enclose the private zone, allowing the apartment to function publicly as an architecture studio.

At its ends, the house opens to the city on one side and to a sunken garden on the other, creating a seamless connection with nature. The materiality relies on the contrast between white walls and wooden elements, maximizing light projection while keeping the atmosphere warm. To avoid overloading the existing structure, the central module was built using Light Steel Framing (LSF) and OSB panels, subsequently clad in white lacquered MDF.
