Eleven Houses in Aroeira

The project develops a set of eleven single-family homes based on a common architectural matrix, subsequently adjusted to the specific conditions of implementation, orientation, and geometry of each plot. The repetition does not correspond to the reproduction of a fixed model, but rather to the construction of variations within the same system, seeking to establish a collective identity without erasing the singularity of each house.

The houses are organized across two levels, distinguishing the social spaces on the ground floor from the more private areas on the upper floor. A compact circulation allows for the expansion of living spaces and reinforces the continuity between the interior and the outdoor areas. On the ground floor, large glazed planes extend the living zones towards the gardens, patios, and pools; on the upper floor, this relationship becomes more filtered, balancing openness, light, and intimacy.

A permeable metallic structure partially envelops the volumes and constitutes the main articulating element of the complex. Conceived as a second skin, it regulates solar incidence, frames the views, and introduces varying degrees of transparency between the house and the landscape. The vegetation integrated into it progressively transforms the facades, inscribing the passage of time and the change of seasons into the architecture.

Architecture and landscape are thus conceived as parts of the same construction. The presence of permeable soil, vegetation adapted to the local climate, and passive shading and ventilation strategies seek to establish a balance between matter, light, and nature, making the outdoor spaces a habitable extension of the house.
